Golden globes....more like golden Oh-Noe!-...bs

So getting into movies more in the last year, I decided to watch...most of... the Golden Globes, a pretty major award.

And I was disappoint!

So I'm just going to rant

Firstly, the most obvious thing. They still have all the comedy categories combined with musicals. Therefore Burlesque was nominated, which was a bad movie. Also, apparently the atrocity known as The Tourist was a comedy, as it was nominated for best comedy.

I haven't actually seen a lot of things nominated. I actually have only seen, out of the nominated films: Black Swan, Toy Story 3, Inception, Alice in Wonderland, Easy A....so ya. But I am relatively well informed of what is good and what is bad.

Why Easy A, Scott Pilgrim or Kick-Ass weren't nominated instead is beyond me. Even the animated movies could have been nominated for best comedy (Toy Story 2 won a while back).

Fuck The Social Network. I refuse to believe that it is that good, that it deserves best director, best screenplay, best score, and best film (drama).

Also, where were Leo DiCaprio's nominations?! He wasn't maybe best actor worthy for Inception, since he didn't really do all that much in that one, but for Shutter Island. He was amazing in that one!

Also, perhaps Jim Carrey for I Love You, Phillip Morris..... not a very wildly known movie, but it was great, as was Jim (sort of like Catch Me If You Can)


That's the main issue with the film portion.


Also, TV shows get awards too. I have to ask....

Glee for best comedy/musical?!!?!?!? WTF!?!?!?! This season of Glee has been trrble. Last season was fine, but this one is boring. Also, too many themed episodes about gay bullying. Not that I am not against bullying, but it is sooooo overblown in the show. It's not funny! It managed to somehow beat 30 Rock, The Big Bang Theory, and Modern Family.

Jane Lynch winning for best supporting actress in comedy(/musical) TV show is good, since is one of the funniest ones in the show. But Chris Coffer (the gay one in Glee) for best supporting actor, really?! He is one of the most boring characters in the show. All he does is be gay, and cry. I don't know who should have one in that category, but I definitely would have chosen Eric Stonestreet (from Modern Family) over him, because he is hilarious.

But it wasn't all bad.

The guy who plays Sheldon won best actor in TV series (comedy/musical). I was like O RLY!!?! That was cool, especially since his co-star was presenting the award, and went insane with joy when he won.

Also, forever fantastic Steve Buscemi won for best actor in a TV drama (for Boardwalk Empire). I have never seen that show, but it's Steve Buscemi. Who else are you going to give it too? Christopher Walken wasn't nominated, so it has to go to him.

Also, DeNiro got a a lifetime achievement award or sth, and they showed a slideshow of his works. Noticed some pretty interesting movies that I hadn't even heard of, so I might be checking those out....

What happened to 2010?

So it is the last full year before the apocalypse, so we need to make the most of it. I don't really do the whole New Years resolution thing, but this year I decided that I should cut down on procrastination. And in resolution fashion i managed to accomplish nothing in the first week. This is due to hanging out with friends I haven't seen in a while. And Assassin's Creed 2 and Call of Duty: Black Ops.

So I beat Asscreed 2. Usually not the fan of too much sandboxyness, but AC2 was great. Killing guards and throwing their ragdoll-ass off the roof never gets old. Also, sandbox games tend to have glitches 'n stuff. Playing this I became disappoint that I don't have some form of video capture. I could have showed all y'all how Ezio thought he was diving head first into water, and instead hits the ground. So great

CODBO was pretty addictive- not the standard deathmatch, rather the cool ones. Gun game. Kill some dudes, getting a new gun with each kill. All the way up to the ballistic knife. Kill someone with the ballistic nife, you win. Also, if you get stabbed, then you go down a gun. 

Apparently, I was really good, but instead of winning the thing, I ran around stabbin' the FUCK (0:27) out of everyone.

But the best occurance, was a meme that was created playing the Sticks & Stones gametype. Everyone has crossbow, ballistic knife, and tomahawk. Stab kills are 25 points, ballistic and crossbow 100 and 'hawk 10. But if you get hit with a tomahawk you lose all your points. So it's fun to throw them around. And as we were playing, we heard this about 16 year old assumidly white, douchbag talking through his headset: "I have like six hawks. I have sooo many hawks." Funny thing is, 6 isn't all that much, as my friend averaged around 8. The best part was how he said it. I can't convey it to you really how great it is, but I did some poor MS painting, and ended up with these:

That should fill my visual aid quota for this post..... too much text this time I guess. Now I will start to keep my resolution, which will include more regular blogging. 

I plan on doing a looking back post on the 2010 in games/film/music, n stuff. Though I'll finish my top 20 countdown first. That will buy me time to watch True Grit, Tron, and The Fighter, so I can have a better "best of 2010 movies".

Technology...

 SO now that the mourning period is over, I can continue blogging. (Between you and me, I was just being lazy, and didn't feel like posting anything. But don't tell anyone else, ok?).

Anyway, as I was saying: Technology is.....

So I am hoping this gem that I found will net me some straight cash homie, but at the moment they are pretty worthless. What am I talking about? This:

This is a laserdisc, the precursor to modern day cds and dvds. I won't explain in detail how I optained these, but I now have about 15 movies.

And yes, they are god damn humongous(1:00). Here is more proof:

Now you maybe asking, "Can you really fit an entire movie on those discs?
First, I'd like to say, stop asking so many goddamn questions. I'll get to it eventually, geez!
Second, no, you cannot. Those discs are double sided. And most movies seem to require an additional 3rd side (2nd laserdisc, with only one side containing any data....not just half a laserdisc....)

So basically every popular movie in the early 90s got the laserdisc (I just like saying that word...sounds fancy) treatment, as did many classics (2001: A Space Odyssey, Godfather, etc). So if one were to have this laserdisc technology, and could purchase any of these movies for a decent amount of money, what would one buy? Well my new collection consists of such all-time greats as: Top Gun, Star Trek VI, Die Hard 2, The Abyss. Though I do also have some actually good movies, like Mrs. Doubtfire, The Fugative, E.T. and the creme de la creme sealed copies of Blazing Saddles and Jurrasic Park. And a collector's edition of the original Star Wars trilogy. Too bad they are all pretty worthless......Maybe I'll just frame them, and show them off, as my platinum music records  =D.

I got my Scott Pilgrim vs The World dvd today. Yay!

Awwwww ya!

I know what you should be thinking, "You, of all people, bought a movie?!". And yes, it is quite unusual. Discounting the tv series I have on the disc format (The Simpsons seasons 1-11, three Family Guy volumes, one American Dad volume, and one Spongebob Squarepants volume) I only have three other DVDs: Underworld and Underworld: Evolution (they're in one box, so it counts as one).......mmmmmm, Kate Beckinsale.....; The Matrix trilogy and The Animatrix; and The Spongebob Movie. A very 1337 and high quality collection if nothing else, eh?

Epic collection is epic

So there are two reasons that I purchased another dvd.

1. It is good to have a physical copy. Just like with video games. I am reluctant to purchase downloadable games. I prefer to have the box. And also, dvds have extra features like deleted scenes and such. Eventually, when I am not a poor college student, I will buy the more epic movies. And Scott Pilgrim belongs to this elite group (as will be revealed by my ever delayed top movie list).

2. Scott Pilgrim vs The World is epic. That is just a fact. Sadly, I am the target audience, and my peers generally don't spend money on things they can get for free. So the movie flopped in the box office (made back only 80% of the cost). I, for one, supported it in theaters (also a rarity, considering how expensive the movies are in the US. In Estonia, it's like $5). I also bought the dvd as to show my support, because if the movie and dvd sales do poorly, then the studios aren't going to make similar, epic movies......and that would be bad.

So go and buy this dvd. It is teh awesomenessness. Also it has some great deleted scenes and bloopers....haven't got around to the commentary.

New York Comic-con 2010

So Comic-con is an expo of comic books/graphic novels, cartoons, video games, and other such "nerdy" things. It was my first visit to such an event, and it was pretty awesome.

Sadly, I went alone, so it wasn't as fun as it could have been, but that's what happens when you don't have any friends.

So the highlight of the show for me was a being able to play a demo of Ghost Trick. A game coming out for the DS next year, by the creators of the Phoenix Wright series, which makes it instantly great, as the demo proved it was.


Other big video game stuff that drew crowds were Marvel vs Capcom 3, Dead Space 2, and some Wii and Kinect stuff, that I didn't partake, since I don't feel like waiting in line.

The other big thing at such expos is the cosplay. Most of it bad, some good. The most popular cosplay seemed to be the Joker and Harley Quinn. I thought of making a compilation of both, but I didn't want my camera to commit suicide due to its the horrible memory it would have to store. So here is some

Aaaanyways, I was kind of annoyed that basically no one accepted credit cards, everyone was all like "cash only" even the food vendors. Luckily, it takes a while for me to get hungry, but it's still an inconvenience. I was sad that I had no cash, since there was a lot of potentially awesome stuff to buy, like

 Stupid glass casings. But I did manage to get some movie posters and some completely original drawings by Zach Weiner, who does a great webcomic.

Besides the whole cash business, and long lines for some stuff, and the being lonely, I would say it was $50 well spent for the weekend.

Consumerism!

Ahh, consumerism. Society, built around stuff. Speaking of stuff:
I don't like to brag that much, but I got some more superspecialawesome stuff. First off, I got some more Halo: Reach stuff.

I actually got the game!!! YAY! I haven't been able to play much yet, but I will. Most definitely.
But that isn't even the highlight of this blog, and you know it has to be a big deal, if it's cooler than Halo: Reach.
I got a book. Not just any book, an amusing book with interesting facts. You might ask: "What the hell is the matter with you? Books are stupid, video games are better?" And if you did, you would be a jerk, and I wouldn't like you.
The best part of the book however, is that it is signed by this man:

The Great Jon Stewart

The Great Jon Stewart is the host of the hilarious show The Daily Show (redundancies are redundant). For those of you who don't know, which is no one, since you are the only one reading this, Aris. It is a show that "makes fun of" "news" channels like CNN, MSNBC, FOX, who insist on yelling their names. But it has become much more than a parody. It has become a reliable news source in and of itself.

He is also holding a rally in DC on the 30th of Oct- The Rally to Restore Sanity. It hold the belief of moderateness instead of extremism. So in honor of the rally, I wore my Slacker t-shirt, which is now officially the best shirt ever, because the Great Jon Stewart laughed when he saw it, out of amusement. That is a fact, so you can run and tell that, homeboy!

Also there was the entire writing staff of the book and the show. People whom I don't and I assume most fans of the show don't recognize. But part of the writers crew were also Wyatt Cenac (the black guy from the show) and John Oliver (the Brit).

Maybe black people aren't so bad after all....

So anyway, even if it isn't signed by such celebrities, the book  is still hilarious, and I suggest you buy it, or at least hang out in a book store and read it, you cheap bastard. Oh ya, the title is Earth (The Book): A Visitor's Guide to the Human Race
